tinned tomato sauce

The difference between a really good tin of tomatoes and a cheap supermarket own brand tin is phenomenal, and only a matter of a few pence. My favourite brand is Metteliana but Sainsbury's have these babies as well as these from France.

enough for two or three
3 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, crushed
400g tin of chopped tomatoes
black pepper

Heat the oil in a saucepan. Add the onion and cook gently until soft. Add the garlic and tomatoes. Season. Simmer for about 25 minutes.
