"A morality play in cameo that comes as close as any cartoon ever has to perfection." - Jay Cox, film critic

"The Citizen Kane of animated film" - Steven Spielberg

"...one of the most perfect cartoons ever made. It’s a wonderful parable of greed, it’s beautifully animated, it’s wonderfully timed, it’s very funny, and its story is perfect for the length and yet it suggests that it is part of an ongoing cycle of something larger and greater." - Charles Solomon, animation historian

It's been a few weeks since my last post. In a frankly pathetic attempt to buy some time whilst my batteries recharge, I offer you this existentialist wonder: One Froggy Evening. The greatest cartoon ever made.

(It was selected by the United States Library of Congress in 2003 for preservation in the National Film Registry and deemed "culturally significant".)

Thanks for checking in SF. Been missing your posts but more important of course that you keep well and don't let those batteries go rusty. Look after yourself. You're inspiring and thanks to your patient posts on all things doughy, I'm now a home made bread convert, so cheers m'dear. P x

I know make your bread too. Well, I've made it once, but would want to make it and eat it all the time. I see on your twitter link that you're interested in nations and nationhood. As I don't have a twitter account, if I may recommend Eric Hobsbawm's and Benedict Anderson's stuff (but you may have already read them).

I've just checked and my local library has 'Imagined communities: reflections on the origin and spread of nationalism' by Anderson inn stock! Thanks so much for the recommendation.

It is a brilliant cartoon, and don't feel pressure to post if you are not ready to - we can wait.

Start with Imagined Communities, and then The Invention of Tradition edited by Eric Hobsbawm.

Just read the article in the Telegraph about you. You've got no idea how similar our stories are...I walk home from my minimum wage job excited as to what I can make for dinner from empty food cupboards - I always pleasantly surprise myself.
Good luck with your on-going life retrieval.

Great blog. It sounds like you're rebuilding on a stronger foundation.

Another one you might like is 'Feed the Kitty', a Warner Bros. 'Merrie Melody' cartoon (1952). It'll break your heart and put it back together again.
